La Capote, le chapeau Capote ou Kichenotte ou Quichenotte<\/h3>\n

R\u00e9gion. (Ouest, notamment littoral charentais et vend\u00e9en). Coiffe paysanne de travail, aplatie sur le dessus de la t\u00eate, orn\u00e9e vers l’arri\u00e8re d’un repli l\u00e9g\u00e8rement ondul\u00e9 et qui retombe en un large pan prot\u00e9geant les c\u00f4t\u00e9s du visage et la nuque. Sous la quichenotte de toile qui me l’avait d’abord cach\u00e9e, je reconnus mon ancienne ma\u00eetresse (Tharaud, Ma\u00eetr. serv., 1911, p. 298).Aujourd’hui, les \u00eeles sont rest\u00e9es fid\u00e8les \u00e0 la kichenotte. Elle est la seule coiffe qu’on est encore s\u00fbr de rencontrer tous les jours dans nos r\u00e9gions, mais on la trouve aussi \u00e0 Marans (M.-Cl. Monchaux, Coiffes d’Aunis et de Saintonge, La Rochelle, \u00e9d. M\u00e9lusine, 1975, p. 29).
\nPrononc.: [ki\u0283n\u0254t]. \u00c9tymol. et Hist. Av. 1890 [1858] (Citation d’un vieux cahier de la s\u0153ur de l’auteur ds P. Loti, Le Roman d’un enfant, 85-86 ds R\u00e9z. Ouest 1984). Terme de la r\u00e9gion nantaise, de Vend\u00e9e et de Charente-Maritime (v. FEW t. 18, p. 77b) consid\u00e9r\u00e9, \u00e0 la suite de Jonain 1869, comme une alt\u00e9r. de l’angl. kiss not \u00ab n’embrassez pas \u00bb empl. p. plaisant. pour d\u00e9signer une coiffe prot\u00e9geant le visage. Alors que Dauzat Ling. fr. 1946, p. 157 y voit un d\u00e9r., pour d\u00e9signer la coiffure des faneuses, du type cuchon < kis\u030co\u0301 \u00ab tas de foin \u00bb r\u00e9pandu dans le Centre et le Midi, R\u00e9z., loc. cit. le rapproche du lim. de m\u00eame sens kaisun\u0254t\u0259 \u00e0 rattacher au lat. capsa \u00ab bo\u00eete, coffre \u00bb (v. FEW t. 2, p. 213b).

Le chapeau capote date du IIe R\u00e9publique – 2nd Empire.
\nLa capote est un chapeau sp\u00e9cifique qui recouvre la chevelure de la femme. Sa forme arrondie encadre l\u2019ovale du visage. Il se noue par des rubans sous le menton. Il forme \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re une coque venant accueillir et cacher le chignon de nuque.
\nSous le Second Empire, la capote est encore \u00e0 la mode mais se pr\u00e9pare \u00e0 subir de nombreuses modifications.
\nAu fil des ann\u00e9es 1850, la capote perd de sa rigidit\u00e9 et gagne en souplesse. La partie de la nuque est progressivement remplac\u00e9e par un bavolet.
